Vandalism of an Orthodox Church in Russia

November 22, 2015. Unknown perpetrators entered the Orthodox church of the Great Martyr George near the village of Shoane Khetagurova (Russia) opened the wooden floors of the temple and made excavations, as the website of Pyatigorsk Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church reports. The fact happened On the eve of celebretion of the Saint patron of the church the Great Martyr George.

In the spring of 2011, there was an arson in the church. The fire was extinguished by the personal efforts of the head of Karachay-Cherkessia Rashid Temrezov.

The new attack make stronger the need for a solution concerning the conservation of ancient temples (in Shoane, Nizhny Arkhyz and Teberda Gorge) and the restoration of their historic status as a place of prayer. The local diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church deposed the petition about it but still they did not receive a response. The diocese hopes that a mutually acceptable solution can be found in order to prevent unlawful acts that aimed at the destruction of Christian holy sites.
