The Court of Appeal didn’t dismiss the case of take-over of the cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Gribovitsa

January 21, 2016. The Court of Appeal of Volyn region allowed the appeal of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church community against the Ivanychevsky district court’s ruling (judge Mr. Neverov I.N.) of January 5, 2016, as reports the Union of the Orthodox Journalists.

The decision of Ivanychevsky court contained a refusal to settle a claim of the Holy Pokrov religious community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church against the investigator’s decision to dismiss the criminal case regarding conflict in the cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the village Gribovitsa.

The decision of the senior investigator of the region dated December 16, 2015 declared the criminal proceedings on the matter of impeding the exercise of religious rites and illegal detention of a sanctuary closed (№12015030080000330 of November 23, 2015).

According to the decision of the Court of Appeal the trial of the take-over of the cathedral belonging to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by the representatives of the Kyiv Patriarchate shall be reopened.

The cathedral in Gribovitsa belonging to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was closed after a public conflict in September 2015 initiated by community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Kyiv Patriarchate. A few months earlier, despite of the agreement to resolve a property dispute within legal framework, the representatives of the
Kyiv Patriarchate broke the locks and took over the Holy Pokrov cathedral.
