The Bulgarian Orthodox Patriarch calls for a cooperation with the State on social and human issues

August 8, 2015. The Bulgarian Patriarch Neofit sent a letter to Parliament Speaker Tsetska Tsacheva in which he demands that bills concerning healthcare, education, morals, and cultural heritage be handed to the Holy Synod for an opinion as the Sofia News Agency Novinite reports.

The Orthodox Patriarch who represents the majority of faithful in Bulgaria reminds to the government that faithful of Bulgarian Church are at the same time citizens of the State and for this reason; it would be good to have cooperation between the State and the Church on crucial issues. The intention is not to interfere in political life but to protect the rights of Orthodox believers.

At the end of his letter, Patriarch Neofit underlined the great contribution of the Bulgarian Church during the years of slavery, when the Church offered not only spiritual but also civil education.
