Robbery in an Orthodox Church

April 14, 2016. Some people broke into the local church named after St. Dmitry in the village of Illyashivka, Ostrozhsky district as Rivne Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church reports. The criminals had broken down the side-door, prowled about the church and got out through the sacrarium.

According to the rector of the Church, archpriest Nikolay Lashkevich, the perpetrators didn’t seem to have intention to outrage over the church utensils. The unwelcome guests neither violated the altar nor took the holy sacraments, but they yielded to temptation of tasting the sacramental wine, which they drank at the altar and then left the empty bottle there.

The violators did not hesitate to take money from the donation box for cancer-stricken children and even took pennies, rested near the icons.

The police squad and crime scene investigation team arrived after the call of the priest who had noticed the signs of crime. Now the police are examining the scene. According to the police officers of the Ostrozhsky district, the investigation for the crime is going on: they are carrying out the procedure of identifying the suspects.
