Five icons stolen from UOC church in Vinnitsa region

December 13, 2016. St. Alexander Nevsky’s Church was robbed in  Vinnitsa region (Ukraine), on the night of December 11, as reports the union of the orthodox journalists.

Thieves stole icons of the Last Supper, the Virgin, Alexander Nevsky and two more icons.

“At about 6.50 in the morning the sexton alerted the priest with a call saying that when he had approached the side door of the church he saw it broken down with an axe – the intruders might have failed to unlock the door. Inside the church everything was tumbled down, the icons at the altar were missing. All around looked devastating….” – said mother Natalia.

The icon of Alexander Nevsky was cut out of the frame. The rest of the icons were taken with the frames.

The church has been burgled for the third time. 5 years ago the icon of St. Panteleimon was stolen from the church. It was also cut out of the frame. Then a parishioner of the church bought a new icon in Pochaev to replace the stolen.

The police opened criminal proceedings on the fact of robbery.
