Attack on an Orthodox priest

January 10, 2016. Unknown persons threw stones at the house of archpriest Ioann Savchuk, rector of the church in the village of Podluží Dubno district, Rivne region (Ukraine). The priest said that this was an act of revenge from the supporters of the Kiev Patriarchate, as the website of the Union of the Orthodox Journalists reports.

Archpriest Ioann Savchuk actively supports the Orthodox Christians to protect their churches in the village of Ptichia, and in other towns and villages of Rivne region. “It’s a warning against me. I connect the aggression towards me with the events that took place in the village of Ptichia. Since I came from there, I actively supported the Orthodox of Ptichia who defend the right to keep their own church. Supporters of the so-called “Kiev Patriarchate” are very embittered with the clergy of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church because we defend the Orthodox churches,” said the priest.

Police was informed and the case is under investigation.
