Arson of the monastery of St. Ambroise

September 21, 2019. The Monastery of St. Ambrose of Optina in Tokmak, in the Berdyansk Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, was attacked on the morning of the great feast of the Nativity of the Mother of God, September 21.

Arsonists set fire before the morning service, causing significant material damage to the monastery, reports the Monastery Bulletin of Ukraine.

The attackers set fire to two combined garages, one of which had a car with a trailer, a set of winter tires, and power tools. The other housed building materials and special tools for laying tiles on the porch of the monastery’s Church of the Ascension.

The monastery was already short on funds, as it spent three years repairing the winter Church of St. Ambrose of Optina, and is asking for assistance from the faithful children of the Orthodox Church.
