An Orthodox monastery on fire for the third time in Russia

November 3, 2015. The firefighters managed to extinguish the fire in Perm in the monastery of Our Lady of Kazan (Russia), as the website prichod reports.

The fire was completely extinguished. 36 persons and 13 vehicles participated in the rescue operation. There were no victims or injured people but the monastic building was partially damaged. According to some local media, maybe it was an arson attack, the third for this year. The online edition of local media source “V kurse Perm‘” reports: “For the first time the attacker tried to burn the monastery building in the spring of 2015. He made a second attempt last summer. Fortunately, all three times emergency workers came to save the building from fire.

The female monastery in Bakharevka was founded at the beginning of the XX century. Before that, women had a community, which was opened a hospice. The new monastery received its name in honor of the birth of the heir to the throne Tsarevich Alexei Nikolaevich.

The monastery church (Protection Church) was built in the summer of 1909 and consecrated in honour of Our Lady of Kazan. By that time in the monastery, there were 109 sisters. They began the construction of other buildings of the monastery. Due to the revolutionary events of 1917 the life of the convent was violently stopped. In 1921, the monastery dismantled and transformed into a children’s sanatorium.

At the beginning of XXI century, it began a new life of Our Lady of Kazan Seraphim Alexis monastery. On 29th December 2000, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church has decided to transform the Bakharevsky monastery of Holy Trinity Monastery Stefanov to a convent. A new life began for the Protection Church. Despite the fact that the building needed important repairs, they began to make there the services until the Kazan Church is restored. Then they began the restoration work at the Church of the Intercession of the Virgin.
