Orthodox bishop: “The Orthodox Church in Montenegro is under persecution”

June 7, 2015. During the Sunday preaching Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral Amfilohije (Serbian Orthodox Church) made statements about the violations of the freedom of religion in Montenegro in relation to the diocese of Montenegro, the largest and most prominent diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church as reports romfea.gr.

In particular, the metropolitan said that “the Church in Montenegro is under a continuous persecution and the authorities use the excuse of nationality against the Church and the priests”. He continued by affirming that “the authorities support their European ambitions and for this reason they will never return the Church property. Contrary, they steal the churches every day. The authorities in Montenegro destroy the churches as they did with the destruction of the gold Cross of Njegos, by saying that the Church simply doesn’t exist for them”.
