Interdiction of Orthodox Metropolitan to visit a school after invitation

February 28, 2016. Under the decision of the Greek Ministry of education, Metropolitan of Mesogea and Lavreotiki, Nikolaos, wasn’t allowed to give a conference at a college in Salonika, where he was invited by the students, as the website romfea reports.

Metropolitan of Salonika confirmed the incident which happened in his jurisdiction. He said that Metropolitan Nikolaos went to the college for the conference and the teachers told him that according to the order of the Greek Ministry of Education you are not allowed to discuss with students and give the conference.

Metropolitan of Salonika, Anthimos commented that this is a kind of persecution of the Church. The order of the Greek Minister, Mr. Filis, was addressed at all schools and colleges to check if any Metropolitan spoke. No Metropolitan is allowed to speak in schools.

Metropolitan Nikolaos said that “the State is dreaming an education without freedom and a society without democracy. I don’t speak about the right of a bishop to go to a school and discuss. I speak about the right of students to discuss with the Church. Those who made propaganda about the anti- racist law, they have a passion against the Church”.
