Desecration of Orthodox St. Nicholas Cathedral in Vienna

August 5, 2016. The parish of the Moscow Patriarchate’s St. Nicholas Cathedral in Vienna has lodged an official complaint against the players of “Pokemon Go,” as reports pravoslavie.ru.

As noted in the complaint, participants in the game broke into the cathedral which is a “place of worship intended only for worship purposes,” reports the site “The Local” on Friday.

Earlier the Russian Church addressed participants in the game “Pokemon Go,” gaining worldwide popularity, with a call to respect the interests of other people.

“The developers of this game deliberately added a provocative dimension, proposing that absolutely any place could become a site for the game. I hope that the users of the game will have enough discretion to respect the interests of other people, social and religious organizations, and not to encroach upon the private lives of others,” stated the deputy head of the Synodal Department for the Relationship of Church and Society and Media, Vakhtang Kipshidze.

According to him, not only sacred spaces, but private life, and museums are “spaces in which people realize their lawful interests and rights, and should not become a playground for players of this game without any limitations.”
