A group of twenty Albanians tried to prevent Metropolitan Amfilohije to serve a Holy Liturgy at Svach, nearby Ulcinj (Montenegro)

July 8, 2018. Haxhi Sulejmani, a member of the Democratic Party, the Ulcinj Parliament ruling coalition, an Albanian Muslim, led a group of twenty Albanians to stop Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral (Serbian Orthodox Church) to hold a service on the foundations of the St John the Baptist’s Church at Svach in Ulcinj (Montenegro) on the 8th of July 2018. The group has blocked the entrance of the church and prevented the faithful with their priests and the metropolitan to enter. According to the recorded dispute between the Metropolitan Amfilohije and Mr Sulejmani,  the disturbers claimed that the church did not belong to the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral, however could not answer to whom it belongs.

Pursuant to the Information Service of the Serbian Orthodox Church, the police managed to deal with the situation in the following way: the believers were permitted to hold the service, but outside the church. Therefore the Holy Liturgy was celebrated that day in the immediate vicinity of the foundations of the St John the Baptist’s Church.
