Desecration of Orthodox religious monuments in Greece

November 6, 2016. According to the public sources, the vast majority of religious monuments in Greece desecrated recently are owned by the Orthodox Church.
The Greek news agency romfea informed in its report of the incidents which occurred in Greece in 2015 and were directed against the places of worship, as reports zyorna.ru website. This report, published by the Department for religious freedom and interfaith relations of the Office for Religious Education General Secretariat for Greek religions, reads as follows:
– 138 of these objects belong to Christian denominations; in particular 137 belong to the Greek Orthodox Church, and one to the Catholic Church,
– in total 147 various religious facilities in Greece have been desecrated,
– 4 objects of Judaism and 5 – Islamic have also been desecrated.
Therefore, there have been a lot more cases of vandalism of Orthodox monuments in modern Greece than to the objects of other Greek denominations.
